PRACTICAL PENTOME · A MOMENT TO NOTICE

When different parts of you want different things

You want to move forward. You also want to feel safe. Where do you begin?

There is something you want to do — start a project, have a conversation, change a habit — but you hesitate.

One part of you says, “Go on.” Another says, “Wait.” Before pushing yourself into action, it can help to understand what each pull is asking for.

Give both pulls a hearing

Imagine you want to share something you have created. You feel excited about letting people see it. You also worry about their response. You might keep making improvements, hoping to reach a point where sharing feels completely comfortable.

The wish to share matters. So does the wish to protect yourself.

What am I moving towards? What am I trying to protect?

Your hesitation might reveal a practical concern you can address. It might also reflect uncertainty that will remain even when you are prepared.

Look through The Five

PentOme offers five places to look:

White · Thinking

What do I expect to happen? What do I know, and what am I assuming?

Red · Moving

What am I doing — preparing, avoiding, practising or beginning?

Blue · Instinct / Body

What do I notice in my body? Would rest, space or support help?

Yellow · Feeling / Relationship

What feelings and relationships matter here?

Green · Desire

What draws me towards this? Do I still want it?

Several answers can be true at once. You can want an opportunity and feel apprehensive about it. Awareness gives you room to notice that combination before deciding what to do.

Consider the timing

Sometimes the next step is a choice. Sometimes it is a rhythm. Preparation can lead into action. Action can be followed by rest and reflection. Listening can make space for speaking.

If you keep preparing, you may need a small beginning. If you keep pushing, you may need a pause.

What would help now — and what could have its turn later?

Try one small experiment

Return to the example of sharing your work. You could show one trusted person, explain what kind of feedback would help, and give yourself time afterwards to reflect. That step allows the wish to share and the need for care to influence your decision.

Three sentences to begin

I want…

I am concerned about…

One step that takes both seriously is…

Then review what happened. Did the step help? What did you learn? What would you change next time?

You do not have to resolve every tension before moving. Sometimes a careful step gives you the information that thinking alone could not.

Explore the deeper roots

Polarity explores contrasting aspects in relationship. Alternation explores how different aspects take their turn over time.
